A man is in a critical condition in hospital after being found unconscious in Belfast city centre.

Emergency services attended the scene in the vicinity of Castle Place/Royal Avenue at around 4.40pm on Saturday.

An unconscious male was found at the scene and was tended to by ambulance staff.

He was taken to hospital and remains in a critical condition as of Sunday morning, police said.

Detectives have appealed for information from anyone as they work to establish the events leading up to the incident.

The PSNI said they are exploring a possible link to an earlier assault reported at 4.30pm, occurring in Castle Place.

Anyone with information is asked to contact 101, quoting reference 1024 of 14/03/26.
