A “viable device” was discovered in a County Derry village, the PSNI have confirmed.
Following a report to police a number of security cordons were put in place around the Oakland Terrace area of Upperlands near Maghera at 5.10pm on Saturday night.
Detective Inspector Keon said: “Ammunition technical officers attended the scene and confirmed the discovery of a viable device.”
He confirmed there is still a police presence in the area “while inquiries are ongoing”.
He appealed for information in particular from “anyone who might have seen anything unusual in the area” between 10pm on Thursday and 2am on Friday.
