Sinn Féin has announced that Dungiven man Rory Donaghy has replaced Cathal McLaughlin on Limavady Council.
The party’s Limavady leader, Councillor Sean McGlinchey, announcing the news said: “Long term Sinn Féin activist Rory Donaghy has replaced Cathal McLaughlin on Limavady Council.
“Rory comes from a republican family and is a long term member of the party. He is married and has four children. I would like to welcome him onto the Sinn Féin team and look forward to working with him in improving the lives of everyone in the Limavady district.
“Rory has been actively involved with his local community for many years so taking on an elected role will only be an extension of that work.
“I would like to pay tribute to Cathal McLaughlin who for personal reasons has stepped down from his councillor role but will remain an important member of the party.
“Cathal has served his constituency with distinction including a very successful term as Mayor and I am sure that he will make an important contribution in the future.”
Cathal McLaughlin said: "It has been a privilege to work with and represent the people of Magilligan during my term on council and I was honoured to have been Mayor of the Borough. I am delighted that Rory has been selected to replace me as I know he will be a hard working councillor and I look forward to working closely with him in the future."
Councillor Rory Donaghy (pictured with party colleague Brenda Chivers) said: "It is an honour to have been selected to serve as a councillor. I would like to wish Cathal all the best and look forward to working in the best interests of Magilligan and Limavady with him and the Sinn Féin team on Council."
