The new Catholic Bishop of Derry will be announced today.
A spokesman for the Catholic diocese of Derry said an announcement will be made this morning about a successor to Bishop Seamus Hegarty (pictured above) who retired in 2011.
The announcement coincides with the visit to Derry today of Archbishop Charles J Brown, Papal Nuncio to Ireland.
He will be in the city to present the Pope John Paul II Awards at a ceremony to be held in Derry’s Millennium Forum.
The awards are presented to 16-18 year olds who have been actively involved their parishes and communities have a contributed ”in a positive way to the life of the Church.”
An announcement about the new bishop is expected to be made this morning at 11am.
