Man arrested in Dublin Airport after arriving from Africa with €500k of illegal drugs

A man in his 60s has been arrested at Dublin Airport following the seizure of half a million euro in drugs.

Gardaí made the arrest yesterday evening (Sunday March 26) after Revenue Customs Services discovered approximately 27kg of suspected cannabis in the man's luggage.

The passenger was stopped following his arrival off a flight from Johannesburg in South Africa via Dubai.

The value of the seized drugs - which were concealed within vacuum packed packages - is estimated at €540,000 pending analysis.

The man was taken to Garda Station in North County Dublin, where he is currently detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996.

Investigations are ongoing.
