Two men with over 100 convictions between them have appeared in court charged over what was described as a 24 hour ‘crime spree’ during the Christmas period in Derry.

The pair, who have over 100 previous convictions between them, are accused of four separate burglaries and stealing three cars.

The alleged offences all took place over Boxing Day and December 27.

The court was told that all of the burglaries occurred while the occupants of the homes were in the properties.

One of the stolen cars was later found burned out in the Lowry’s Lane area on Friday morning.

Daniel Kelly, 26, and Ruairi Saunders, 28, appeared at a special sitting of Derry Magistrates Court on Saturday morning.

Both defendants, who have addresses in the city, were arrested after being observed running away from the area where the car was set alight.

The court was told that during one of the burglaries, the homeowner was confronted by two men who had entered his home.
