Police in Derry are appealing for information about an assault that left a man unconscious.

The incident took place near the library at Foyle Street at about 2am on Sunday.

The victim was knocked to the ground and kicked about the head and upper body and knocked unconscious.

It is believed that up to four assailants were involved.

The injured man was taken by ambulance to Altnagelvin Hospital, but was later discharged.

Information can be given by contacting the non-emergency number, 101, and asking for police at Strand Road, quoting reference number 140 23/03/14.
