A man charged with the murder of his parents has been remanded in custody until next week.
Julian Cuddihy (42) of Churchtown, Carndonagh appeared at a special sitting of Letterkenny District Court this morning charged with the murder of James and Kathleen Cuddihy at Churchtown, Carndonagh on or around October 22.
Over a thousand mourners attended their funeral yesterday.
Cuddihy was led into court in handcuffs wearing the same clothes as when he appeared at Ballyshannon District Court last Friday evening.
Defence solicitor Mr Ray Lannon, told the court the defendant had yet to undergo the urgent psychiatric assessment that had been requested.
He said the prison where Cuddihy is being detained did not have any psychiatric facilities.
Inspector Goretti Sheridan said Dr Kennedy from the Central Mental Hospital had been liaising with prison services and that it was ''a work in progress''.
Judge Paul Kelly directed the psychiatric assessment be carried out as soon as possible and noted it had been requested last Friday.
Judge Kelly remanded Cuddihy in custody to appear at Harristown District Court on Friday week, November 7.
