A man who was caught on CCTV assaulting his then partner has been jailed at Derry Magistrate's Court today.
Barry McLaughlin (25) of O'Riada Court in Derry admitted a series of offences that occurred on October 28.
The court heard that police were called by CCTV operators to a domestic incident at 2am in the Foyle Street area where a male was assaulting a female.
Police located the male, McLaughlin, in William Street and he was arrested.
The injured party who was McLaughlin's partner at the time refused to co-operate but the court was told there was sufficient evidence on CCTV.
Defence counsel Stephen Mooney said that given the nature of the offences a custodial sentence was inevitable.
He said his client had not wasted the court's time by contesting the matter.
District Judge Barney McElholm said that McLaughlin would get credit for his early plea.
He sentenced him to 14 weeks in prison and fined him £100.
