A man who was released on bail on Monday 'lasted less than 12 hours' before breaching his bail Derry Magistrate's Court heard today.
David Hamilton (27) of no fixed abode appeared on Monday for breaching his bail after his former partner woke up and found him in bed in breach of no contact conditions.
Today Hamilton was charged with attempted criminal damage to a window on December 5.
A police officer said that after being released on bail to an address, G4S attempted to fit a tag on him.
They were initially refused entry to the property but eventually told that Hamilton did not reside there.
Later police were called to Rockmills where it was reported the defendant had tried to enter a property.
He was alleged to have made a threat to smash a window if he wasn't allowed in.
At interview he said he had thrown a lighter at the window to attract attention and was only looking for cigarettes.
The police officer said they had no confidence he would abide by conditions and also believed he would re-offend.
Defence solicitor Seamus Quigley said that the address Hamilton had been released to was no longer available but asked for bail to an address suitable to police.
He added that it was not the most serious attempted criminal damage.
District Judge Barney McElholm said that if Hamilton had gone to police and said he had lost his address something coukd have been arranged.
He added: "This man just can't stick to bail conditions".
Bail was refused and Hamilton was remanded in custody to appear again on December 21.
