Sinn Féin Foyle MLA Pádraig Delargy
Sinn Féin MLA Pádraig Delargy has welcomed the announcement of €7.6m funding for a tourism marketing initiative to jointly market and signpost the Causeway Coastal Route and Wild Atlantic Way as part of funding for new all-island partnership projects.
The Foyle MLA said: “The Wild Atlantic Way is recognised globally for its natural beauty and is visited by thousands of people yearly from all over the world. The Causeway Coastal Route has a similar global profile.
"Until now both routes have been promoted and signposted in isolation. In addition visitors crossing into the six counties in the local border areas have been directed to follow road signs for Coleraine to join the Causeway Coastal route. This has seen tourists by passing the city of Derry and directly impacted on local visitor numbers.
“The joint promotion and integration of the Wild Atlantic Way and the Causeway Coastal route will boost the local economy, create jobs and help tourism thrive in our local communities.
“In 2021, Sinn Féin launched our ‘Explore More’ plan to extend the globally recognised brands like the Wild Atlantic Way to create a vibrant economy and unlock our full potential.
“This funding announcement will allow these plans to bear fruit in the coming years.”
