Man (23) and woman (19) arrested as police probe shots fired during August bonfire in Derry

Detectives investigating a report that shots were fired during a bonfire in Derry in August have carried out searches this morning, Thursday 24 November, and made two arrests.

The incident was reported to have occurred in the Meenan Square area of the Bogside on the night of 15 August.

Detective Inspector Clara Heaton said: "Officers carried out searches of two properties this morning – both in the Bogside/Brandywell areas of the city. 

“A number of items were seized for examination.

“A 19-year-old woman and a 23-year-old man have been arrested under the Terrorism Act, and taken to the Serious Crime Suite at Musgrave Police Station for questioning.

“Our enquiries continue, and I would reiterate our appeal for anyone with information to contact us on 101 quoting reference number 2217 of 15/08/22.”
