Planning approval is being sought to build 23 new apartments at a landmark building in Derry’s city centre. The proposal, lodged by the Derry based Ashfield Properties (NI) LTD, is seeking planning permission to construct the apartment at numbers 50-54 Waterloo Street (pictured). The ground level of the section of the building is currently occupied by a number of fast food outlets, but the uppers floors are unused. The apartments will be a mix of six two-bed apartments and 17 one-bedroom apartments. The applicants are also seeking to have the upper floors clad in copper, with the application also seeking the retention of the ground floor units. The application has been lodged with the local planning authority, which is Derry City and Strabane District Council. It marks the latest proposal seeking planning permission to construct apartments in the city centre, after it emerged last week that approval was also being sought for five new flats at building in Shipquay Street.
