An 83-year-old man has been returned for trial at Derry Crown Court charged with five counts of indecent assault on a girl. Michael McGonagle of Slievemore Park is further charged with one count of gross indecency towards a child. The charges relate to alleged incidents between March 7, 1991 and March 6, 1995. McGonagle’s solicitor conceded there was a prima facie case to answer when the preliminary enquiry came before Derry Magistrates Court today. The defendant declined to say anything in answer to the charges, call any witnesses or give any evidence. He was released on his own continuing bail of £500 to appear before the Crown Court on April 4 for his arraignment. McGonagle was ordered to have no contact with the alleged injured party.
