Western Trust staff and volunteer honoured in Queen’s Birthday Honours List

The Chief Executive of Western Trust has congratulated staff and a volunteer who have been named on the Queen's Birthday Honours List for their contribution to others' well-being. Dr Anne Kilgallen extended her warmest congratulations to Bernadette Michaelides, Western Trust Head of Intermediate Care/Lead Nurse Adult Community Nursing, Judith Houlahan, Head of Secondary Care/Lead Nurse and Margaret Marley, volunteer, on their much deserved recognition in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list. Bernadette (Bernie) Michaelides was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for services to community nursing. Dr Kilgallen said: “This honour is truly deserved by Bernie who has always put patients at the centre of all her work. I extend my congratulations to Bernie for this well-deserved recognition and for her dedication to nursing in the Western Trust area.” Judith (Judy) Houlahan and Margaret Marley became Medallist’s of the Order of the British Empire (BEM) for services to nursing and voluntary services to the community of Londonderry respectively. Dr Bob Brown, Executive Director of Nursing and Direction of Primary Care and Older People’s Services for the Western Trust said: “Judy is retiring from the Trust in August 2018 following 46 years as a nurse, service manager and nursing leader. "I am grateful for the leadership, caring focus and exemplary dedication Judy has shown throughout her career and I am often reminded of the hugely significant contribution Judy has made within the Trust and regionally, in particular to the care provided to older people. "Judy has served a very distinguished career, always giving of her best to ensure that the care patients and clients receive is safe, of high quality and that their experience is a good one.” Dr Kilgallen also extended her warmest congratulations to Margaret Marley a retired Vice Principal who now volunteers at the busy Outpatients Department, Altnagelvin Hospital, on her much deserved recognition in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list.
