Public urged to vote online after years of campaigning sees online electoral registration system go live
18 Jun 2018
Sinn Féin Councillor Paul Fleming has urged the public to utilise the online electoral registration system that finally went live today after years of campaigning. He said: “I very much welcome the fact that voters in the North can register online from today. “Sinn Féin have been intensively lobbying for an end to the delay in rolling out the online registration system here. "It was introduced in Britain in 2014 and it should not have taken so long to introduce it here, particularly given the many thousands of people who have been taken of the electoral register in the North of Ireland. “Online registration will help to begin redressing that democratic deficit and I would urge everyone to use the system to ensure you are registered and able to exercise your hard-won right to vote. “The service is available at
www.gov.uk/register-to-vote and the process should take under five minutes.”
