UPDATE: Motorists asked to stay away site of massive fire in the Creggan area to allow firefighters to tackle the blaze, nearby residents urged to close windows

Police have urged motorists to avoid a number of rural roads at the back of Creggan whilst a large fire rages at an industrial estate on the Heather Road. The PSNI has said the large number of motorists at the scene is affecting the Fire Service's ability to get access to water. speaking tonight Sinn Féin Councillor Kevin Campbell said: “ A large fire is raging at industrial buildings on the Heather Road and the smoke can be seen for miles across the city. “I would urge motorists to avoid the area as I have spoken to a number of people who have been trying to travel into the top end of Creggan and the roads around there are chock-a-block with people up watching the fire. "It’s important to let the Fire Service get on with their job unhindered."
