'Where the f- is...?' Man fined £400 after shouting line from popular pub song at police officers in Derry
3 Jul 2018
A 32-year-old man who pushed a police officer after shouting a line from a popular pub song at the officers has been fined £400. Darragh Costelloe, of Tullyverry Drive in Greysteel, admitted being disorderly and two counts of assaulting police on May 5. The court heard that police were in Ebrington Square dealing with another matter when Costelloe approached them shouting ‘Where the f**k is…?’ before replacing ‘Alice’ with another name. He then pushed an officer and struggled to the extent they all fell down a flight of steps. When he was being arrested Costelloe repeated the woman's name, before adding: “She's messed up my life.” Defence solicitor Seamus Quigey said he could clear up the mystery of the woman Costelloe was shouting about. He said she was a police officer who had cautioned the defendant several weeks prior to this incident. The solicitor said his client 'had taken umbrage' at that and his feelings came to the surface with drink in him. Mr. Quigley said Costelloe was a ‘big man’ who would have been 'quite difficult to deal with' but added that he would never put himself in that position again. Costelloe was then fined a total of £400.
