Police in Derry issue warning to parents after gorse fire started deliberately in the Collon Lane area of the city

The PSNI in Derry have issued a warning to local parents after a gorse fire was started deliberately on the Collon Lane adjacent to the rear of St Columbs College earlier this evening. "There are a number of kids in the area and it appears to be a deliberate ignition," a police spokesperson said. "This was predicted and has been detected early through proactive police patrols. But as previously stated whoever is at this needs to stop and parents need to take evasive action if their kids are coming home smelling of smoke etc. "Due to a number of serious road traffic collisions police and fire service are currently stretched and these malicious fires adding to the problem."
