Foyle Search and Rescue confirm searches for missing person will not be affected by incoming boats, safety advice also issued

Foyle Search and Rescue have confirmed that the searches for a missing person will not be hampered by vessels coming into the river area. A spokesperson said: "We are currently searching for a missing person in the River Foyle. "We have received a number of queries referencing visiting boats churning up the water. "All incoming vessels have been briefed and will not in any way hamper our search." They have also issued safety advice to those involved in the search, "We would ask that you please adhere to the following safety briefs - 1. Always stay in a group. 2. Carry a mobile phone. 3. Be careful along the river's edge and DO NOT enter the glar/mud. You may become stuck and need rescued. 4. DO NOT cross over any railings riverside under any circumstances. 5. DO NOT cross over onto or walk along rail tracks. 6. In the event of finding any items of clothing etc:DO NOT TOUCH or remove. Please contact the PSNI on 101 who will in turn alert Foyle Search & Rescue. 7. Persons searching should wear appropriate clothing and footwear for the weather conditions. 8. It is recommended that persons searching wear high-vis clothing to enable boat crews to observe them on the riverbank. 9. People who are searching are reminded that the riverbank is extremely hazardous after dark.
