Derry's council to host special meeting to discuss 'ongoing criminal behaviour and sectarian attacks' in the Bogside
10 Jul 2018
Speaking following sustained criminal behaviour and sectarian attacks in the Bogside, SDLP Group Leader Cllr Martin Reilly has called for a special meeting of Derry City and Strabane District Council to be convened. He said: "The overwhelming majority of people right across this city and district are appalled at the events unfolding in the Bogside area over recent days and nights. "These actions do not represent the wishes of the people living in that part of our city and the Council must come together to say clearly "Not in my name". "I have asked the Mayor to convene a special council meeting as soon as possible so that we can discuss the issue and identify solutions." Continuing Councillor Reilly added: "The public rally last evening was a welcome demonstration by local people against such thuggery in their area. "This meeting will allow elected representatives from across Derry and Strabane a chance to add their voices calling for it to stop and for people to be able to live in peace."
