Derry man appears in court charged with stealing 70p worth of goods from local convenience store

A man has appeared at Derry Magistrate's Court sitting in Omagh charged with stealing goods valued at 70p from a local Central shop. Stephen Gérard Bradley (34) of Donald Casey Court in Derry was charged with stealing the goods on June 5 this year. A police officer connected Bradley to the charge. District Judge Barney McElholm said 'obviously transportation was the only option'. Defence solicitor Paddy MacDermott agreed and said 'Van Diemens land', referring to a penal colony in Australia where convicts were sent to in the 1800s. The case was adjourned until July 25.
