Driver has lucky escape after car leaves Derry-Buncrana road and ends up in field

A man had a lucky escape when the car he was driving left the main Derry to Buncrana road overnight and ended up in a field. The single vehicle collision occurred at Rockhead outside Burnfoot at around 1.20am. The Donegal registered black Volkswagen Golf, which had "N" plates displayed, struck crash barriers and landed the right way up in the field about 40 metres from the road. The 28-year-old driver, who was able to free himself from the vehicle (pictured), was taken to Letterkenny University Hospital for treatment. It is understood his injuries are not serious. Gardai are appealing for witnesses to the collision.
