Fears after huge bonfire erected overnight close to homes in the Bogside area of Derry

A huge bonfire has been erected overnight at derelict lands close to homes in the Bogside area of Derry. The bonfire has been built up at a site in the Meenan Square area, and fencing which had surrounded the site has also been torn down. The last time the bonfire was lit at the site, a number of appliances from the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) had to hose down nearby buildings to ensure flames did not spread. There were also fears that the flames could ignite an electricity substation at Meenan Square. The following year saw the bonfire transferred to Nailor's Row due to safety fears.
