85-year-old man to go on trial at Derry's Crown Court for a series of historical sex charges against a female child

An 85-year-old man has been returned for trial to Derry Crown Court on a series of historical sex charges. The man, who cannot be named in order to protect the identity of the alleged victim, appeared at a preliminary enquiry at Derry Magistrate's Court earlier this week. He is charged with eight counts of indecent assault against the same female child on dates between October 31, 1961 and June 24, 1963. It was submitted there was a case to answer and there were no contrary submissions. The defendant said he did not want to call any witnesses or make any statement at this time. He was returned for trial on his own bail to Derry Crown Court sitting on September 18.
