Derry public urged to be aware of new online vehicle tax refund scam

People in Derry have been warned not fall for a new internet scam aimed at stealing their bank details. A fake Facebook account purporting to be the DVLA is contacting people and telling them are due a vehicle tax refund. It then asks for the person’s bank details to pay the money into their account. Derry MLA Mark H Durkan commented: “I have been contacted twice in the past 24 hours by people targeted by this vehicle tax refund scam. “DVLA and other agencies will never offer you a refund in this manner so never give your details online. “Please be vigilant and warn your family and friends too.”
