BREAKING: Lucky escape for driver after accident in Derry where vehicle left the road and plunged downhill into trees

The emergency services were called to an accident in Derry a short time ago where a vehicle left a road and plunged downhill into trees. The incident happened shortly before 6pm in the Southway area of Creggan. The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS), the PSNI and an ambulance were tasked to the scene. The driver was then treated for his injuries. Traffic diversions were put in place while emergency services dealt with the incident. Commenting, the independent councillor for the area, Gary Donnelly, said it was fortunate that no one was seriously injured. "This must have been a very frightening experience for the driver, but thankfully he doesn't seem to be too badly injured," he said.
