Derry youth, 16, accused of rape is set to face trial at Crown Court

A 16-year-old youth is set to be returned for trial to Derry Crown Court on a rape charge. The youth, who cannot be named due to his age, appeared at a preliminary enquiry at Derry Youth Court today. He was charged with one charge of rape that was said to have occurred on May 5, 2017. It was accepted there was a case to answer and the youth said he did not wish to call any witnesses or make any statement at this stage. He is set to be returned for trial to Derry Crown Court later this month and was released on bail.
