A police officer told Derry Magistrate's Court that he was fearful for the safety of a man in custody charged with conspiracy to kidnap another man should he be released on bail. Simon Clarke (21) of Woodbrook in Derry is charged with conspiracy to kidnap and possessing a firearm in suspicious circumstances on September 21. At a bail application today a police officer said that while they believed Clarke came from a strong family background they were concerned for his safety if released. A defence barrister said his client had a job in Dublin and his family had raised a cash surety if required. District Judge Barney McElholm said that he believed 'for his own good he would be better well away from the city.' He said if a suitable address could be found along with a cash surety bail would be granted. The case was adjourned until October 29.
