A 49-year-old man was made subject to the requirements of the sexual offender's legislation when he pleaded guilty at Derry Crown Court today to sexually abusing a female family member over thirty years ago. The defendant, who cannot be named for legal reasons because of the nature of the offences, pleaded guilty at his arraignment to four charges of indecently assaulting a female child on dates between December 1984 and December 1987. He also pleaded guilty to a single charge of committing an act of gross indecency with or towards the same child between the same dates. Judge Philip Babington ordered the preparation of a pre-sentence report and adjourned the case until November 12. The defendant was released on continuing bail until that date.
