Teenager who performed a handbrake turn in order to impress two girls in the Galliagh area of Derry has been fined £400

A teenager who performed a handbrake turn in order to impress two females has been fined £400 at Derry Magistrate's Court. Scott Hamilton Wylie (19), of Laurel Hill Gardens in Park, County Derry, admitted careless driving on June 8 last. The court heard that police were on patrol in the Galliagh area and saw a car approach a junction and perform a handbrake turn. Two females then alighted and the car drove off. Police stopped the car driven by Wylie a short distance away and he was immediately apologetic and said he had five points on his licence. After being cautioned he told police: "I am sorry for doing that." A defence solicitor said it was'a misguided attempt to impress the females. ' He said in Wylie' s favour it had taken place at 11.20pm when there was no one about. District Judge Barney McElholm said 'he needs to grow up' and fined him £400 and gave him 6 penalty points.
