Joyriders set fire to stolen car outside shop in the Galliagh area of Derry this morning
13 Nov 2018
Joyriders have burned out a stolen car at the front of a shop in the Galliagh area of Derry. The car was set alight in the early hours of this morning outside the Spar store on Fairview Road. pictured above. People in the area have said that the incident is the latest in a spate of such crimes over recent days. SDLP Councillor Brian Tierney issued an appeal to those responsible to think about the damage they are doing to this community. Speaking at the scene Councillor Tierney said: “This morning young children on their way to school had to pass the remains of another burnt out car in the area. “I have spoken to council to ensure that it is removed from the area as soon as possible. “People are becoming increasingly frustrated with this type of behaviour taking place in our area. There is positive work going on within the area to bring facilities and projects to the community and this is not what people want to see. “The residents here want to live in peace and should be allowed to do so. This car has been reported to have been driving recklessly around the area before it was dumped and burnt out. “I would again appeal to the people involved to think about the damaging effect this has on our community and ask them to stop this immediately.”
