Rosemount's first class new Post Office is a family affair

A father and son have opened a new Post Office in the Rosemount area of the city, almost a year after the last branch closed. Local business owner John Gill and his son Kevin opened the new Post Office in ‘Gill’s Newsagents & Spar’ located in Park Avenue, which has been at the heart of the community for over eight decades. The ribbon was cut yesterday by the area’s oldest resident Joe Doherty who is in his 80s. Kevin is the fourth generation of Gill family to operate a business in the local area. His great, great Grandfather, Patrick Hegarty, first operated a retail store in Park Avenue back in 1939. Speaking before the opening Kevin said he was proud to be providing a Post Office for the people of Rosemount: “I am absolutely delighted to be expanding my father’s business to include a new and modern Post Office facility. “We first identified a gap in the market over 18 months ago and have worked very hard with the Post Office to ensure that this vital service was available for our customers through our comprehensive business plan. “The addition of a Post Office offers a vast range of products including postal facilities, post office card accounts, free of charge cash withdrawals and deposits, postal orders, money gram, top up services and much, much more. His father, John Gill said the decision to open the Post Office was driven by their customers. “It has been a great honour to serve the people in my local community over the last 50 years and I look forward to continuing to do so with added value products and services provided by our new Post Office facility,” he said. “We have listened to our customers’ needs and invested significantly to ensure we can deliver for them. “I have worked tirelessly over the years to develop and grow the business with one key objective – to always exceed my customer’s needs and expectations. “The Post Office is at the very heart of customers’ choice and the most trusted provider of essential services. He continued: “They are the UK's largest retail network and the largest financial services chain in the UK with more branches than all the UK’s banks and building societies put together. “We look forward to working with the Post Office to offer our customers this vital service as part of our retail offering here in Park Avenue.”
