Derry man returned for trial on explosive charges

A Derry man has been returned for trial to the Crown Court on explosives charges. Gary Burke (40), of Glenowen Park, appeared at a preliminary enquiry at Derry Magistrate's Court today. He is charged with possessing explosives with intent to endanger life on December 13 last year. Burke is also charged with possessing explosives in suspicious circumstances and having articles for use in terrorism again on the same date. It was accepted there was a case to answer and there were no contrary submissions. Burke said he did not wish to call any witnesses or make any statement at this stage. He was returned for trial to the Crown Court on January 17 and released on bail.
