A man who became involved in a row with his mother over tidying his room has appeared at Derry Magistrate's Court charged with assaulting her and his sister. Alex Crawford (19), of Kinsale Park in Derry, admitted two assault charges and one of criminal damage on 31 July last. The court was told that at 2.40pm the defendant was in his bedroom when his mother approached him asking him to clean his room. An argument ensued and then his sister asked him to do what he was asked. Crawford started shouting and swearing at his sister then came out of the room and smashed a lamp. He then pushed past his mother and grabbed his sister by the shoulders and pushed her into a Bush. Defence barrister Nicki Rountreesaid told the court was 'an unfortunate incident' that should not have happened. She said Crawford had issues and in this case 'a red mist had descended.' Crawford was sentenced to 12 months on probation.
