Remanded in custody charged with a series of Derry burglaries

A man, with an address in Donegal, was remanded in custody he appeared at Derry Magistrate's Court today on a number of burglary charges. The court was told Leon Shovlin, whose address was given as "no fixed abode," actually had an address in Glenties in Co Donegal. The 20-year-old appeared charged with entering a premises in Derry as a trespasser with intent to steal on 2 June last year. He was also charged with attempting to steal after entering another property on the same date. Shovlin was further charged with stealing two bicycles valued at around £260 as well as a charge of criminal damage to a window, also on the same date. He was also charged with possessing cannabis on 10 January this year. A police officer told the court he could connect Shovlin to the charges. There was no application for bail and he was remanded custody to appear again on 14 February next.
