Donegal Coroner Dr Denis McCauley has set the date for the inquest of Andrew Allen (24), the Derry man shot dead in Buncrana on 9 February, 2012. Sitting in Buncrana Court House, Mr McCauley said Mr Allen’s Inquest would take place on Wednesday, 11 September, in Buncrana. Mr Allen (pictured), who was from Derry’s Waterside, had been living in Links View Park, just outside Buncrana at the time of his death. The group calling itself Republican Action Against Drugs (RAAD) subsequently claimed responsibility for his killing, alleging he was involved in drug-dealing, a claim strenuously denied by his family. Mr McCauley said Mr Allen’s case was moving into its seventh year and he felt it was important an inquest was held. Garda Inspector Eugene McGovern, who was present in court, concurred with Dr McCauley. Inspector McGovern said he had had a meeting with the senior investigating officer on Mr Allen’s case on Tuesday past and, although the investigation was slow and there were matters outstanding, he felt an inquest should go ahead.
