Man (55) pleads guilty to possessing 1,900 indecent images of chlidren
5 Feb 2019
A 55-years-old man is awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty at Derry Crown Court to possessing 1,900 indecent images of children. At his original arraignment last month Thomas Cairns, whose bail address cannot be made public for legal reasons, today pleaded guilty to 11 of the 16 charges in total which he faces but pleaded not guilty to a further five charges. At his re-arraignment today on the five charges he had originally denied, he pleaded guilty to committing the 16 offences on 30 May, 2017. A barrister for the Public Prosecution Service told Judge Philip Babington he accepted it was a maximum credit case and that the 1,900 images, one of which was an extremely pornographic image, were of various classifications. The defendant, who has no previous convictions and who is undergoing specialised counselling, was released on continuing bail until his plea and sentence hearing takes place on 5 March. He was placed on the Sex Offenders Register and the length of time he will spend on the register will be determined when he's sentenced next month. Judge Babington ordered pre-sentence and psychiatric reports for the sentencing date. My KOB-L09. On O2.
