Derry Magistrate's Court heard today how CCTV operators noticed a man sniffing white powder in Union Hall Place and called the police. Gary Deehan (30), of Clon Elagh in Derry, admitted one charge of possessing class A drugs namely cocaine on 20 November last year. The court heard that police were notified by the CCTV operators about a man who they described sniffing cocaine. The court heard police attended and located Deehan in the area and he was arrested. When asked by police what happened he told them he had been caught "sniffing coke." Defence solicitor Seamus Quigley told the court his client had not made "a bad situation worse" and added that at his age he should have known better. District Judge Peter King said it was "regrettable" that Deehan's first drug offence was for possessing cocaine. Deehan was fined £200.
