‘Making Tax Digital’ workshop for small businesses

As part of this year’s Enterprise Week events, an interactive workshop on the new ‘Making Tax Digital’ system will take place on Friday, April 5 in The Old Fire Station, Hawkin Street at 12 noon. A light lunch will be provided.

HMRC’s ‘Making Tax Digital’ (MTD) aims to create a tax system that is more efficient, more effective and easier for businesses to use.

Are you a small business owner with concerns about the new MTD requirements coming into effect on April 1,2019?

This workshop by Cloud 360 Accounting will provide you with help to better understand what the new MTD system is and how it will have an impact on your business.

The session – lasting approximately 1 hour 30 minutes – will cover: Introduction to Making Tax Digital and Cloud 360 Accounting; A detailed review of what MTD means for you and your business; Using cloud technology to change your financial systems and results; Practical help and tips and Question and Answer session with an MTD expert from Cloud 360 Accounting.

Louise Breslin, Business Development Manager with Derry City and Strabane District Council, said: “As ‘Making Tax Digital’ kicks in for all VAT registered businesses from April 1, 2019, we’re facilitating this timely workshop aimed at providing local businesses with practical help and advice.

“Indeed, the workshop will not only help businesses ensure that they are MTD ready, but will also provide them with a great opportunity to improve their financial systems – saving both time and money.”

Kieran Phelan from Cloud 360 Accounting added: “We’re in the middle of a perfect storm for small businesses – GDPR, Brexit and now Making Tax Digital.

“Indeed, the lack of official communication from government about MTD changes is worrying – and it is clear that a large number of businesses simply aren’t prepared for the biggest change to the UK tax system in over 20 years.

“That’s why we’ll be running this workshop during Enterprise Week to help businesses understand the new system, what they need to do now, and how using cloud technology for their accounting and bookkeeping can be a positive thing for their business if they get it right.

“I’d therefore encourage as many businesses as possible to come along to learn more about the reporting of their VAT affairs digitally and how to become 100 per cent cloud based – which will ensure that they are better prepared for this landmark shift in taxation.”
