People Before Profit to hold protest at Department for Communities in Belfast today

A protest against welfare reforms will be held outside the Department for Communities offices in Belfast at 4pm today. People Before Profit Foyleside candidate and anti-cuts campaigner Shaun Harkin said: "I'll be joining People Before Profit activists and welfare rights campaigners at the protest today at the Department for Communities offices in Belfast.
"We'll be delivering thousands of letters signed by people in Derry and Belfast calling for welfare reforms to be scrapped.
"It's now a fact that Universal Credit and PIP have caused immense damage to our society. It's also fact the Bedroom Tax is here. The for-profit company Capita should be banned from carrying out PIP medical assessments as they have been in Scotland.
"We believe these protest letters reflect the opinion of a majority of people in the North - those directly impacted and those not - that the implementation of these vicious policies is an unmitigated disaster.
"There always was and still is an alternative to these draconian measures. We encourage everyone to keep campaigning in that direction. Public outrage and agitation can undo what Westminster and Stormont has inflicted."
