SDLP Councillor Dobbins pleas for parental support over anti-social behaviour in Culmore

Angela Dobbins

Following police reports of underage drinking, and anti-social behaviour in the Culmore area, SDLP  Councillor Angela Dobbins has called on parents to support the local residents in the area to speak to their children about this disruptive behaviour.

Cllr Dobbins said: “I have reported anti-social behaviour to the Community Safety Wardens and incidents that are happening in this area over the last few weeks.

“I am now urging parents to explain to their children about the distress they’re causing to others, especially the elderly and more vulnerable in our society. I am asking parents to talk to their children and urge upon them that this behaviour is totally wrong and could have dire consequence to their future careers. These young people will end up with a criminal record which in turn could have an effect on their chances of future education or employment.

“The PSNI have acknowledged that they will increase their patrols of the area following a large quantity of alcohol confiscated from a crowd estimated at around 200 young people.

“I have also been informed by residents, that Barleyfields building site is being used as a playing field and a gathering point for young people as young as ten who are putting their lives in danger by entering unfinished houses and climbing on scaffolding. I will be informing the developer and the planning department of these incidents and requesting that this site be secured as a matter of urgency.”
