£10,000 reward for the conviction of Lyra McKee's killer

A reward of up to £10,000 has been offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Lyra McKee's murderer. The offer from the Crimestoppers charity comes a week to the day when the 29-year-old journalist was struck in the head by a bullet fired by a 'New IRA' gunman in Derry's Creggan estate. Lyra McKee was laid to rest in her native Belfast yesterday afternoon following a celebration of her life at St Anne's Cathedral. A vigil was also held in Derry's Guildhall Square as the funeral service got underway. Crimestoppers say the reward will only be given if information is passed to them anonymously and not directly to the PSNI. A spokesperson for the organisation said: "This murder has sent shockwaves through the local community and across Northern Ireland. Indeed it has attracted global attention.

“Ms McKee was merely doing her job as a freelance journalist. We know that this has affected all parts of the community and we urge anyone who has information about those responsible to come forward.

“By contacting Crimestoppers you are 100 per cent anonymous-always. You can pass on what you know, safe in the knowledge that you’re doing the right thing. No one will ever know you contacted us.”

And, the lead investigating officer in the murder case, Detective Superintendent added:"I want to find the people who murdered Lyra and the information can help us bring Lyra’s killer to justice lies within the local community. People saw the gunman-people know who is responsible. I’m asking them to come forward and help us.

“We have received widespread public support to date and if this reward further encourages people to come forward, this may help assist us in our efforts to get some justice for Lyra and her loved ones.
