Man (49) to appear at Derry court on attempted hijacking and attempted robbery charges

A 49-years-old man is due to appear at Derry Magistrate's Court today charged with attempted hijacking and attempted robbery. He is also charged with failing to provide a specimen when in charge unfit, in charge when unfit through drink or drugs and possession of class B controlled drug. The charges are in connection with an incident in the Ballymagroarty area of Derry during the early hours of yesterday morning when police received a report of a man entering the driver’s seat of a car whilst a female and two children were present. He attempted to drive the car away but was unable to do so, he then proceeded to try and take the handbag from the women sitting in the passenger seat, however he fled the scene empty handed. The woman and children were left unharmed.
