Alliance Party candidate for Foyleside, Rachel Ferguson has come out in support of the parents and governors of Groarty Integrated Primary School which has been threatened with closure.
Shesaid: “I attended an integrated school myself, so I strongly endorse the wishes of the parents to keep Groarty Integrated Primary School open. It is currently the only integrated school on the west bank of the city. So it is an important option for parents there.
“Since 1970, the Alliance Party has supported parents who wanted integrated schools for their children. This as a hugely important way to help overcome our community divisions - and also a way to avoid spending so much money on administering our school system, instead of putting the money into the classrooms.
“All the local Alliance party candidates support integrated schools”, says Ferguson. “And we all support the wishes of the parents and governors of Groarty IPS to keep the school open - particularly with the start of the 5,000 new houses already being built beside their school," she said.
