Council Election: Mary Durkan set to top poll in Foyleside DEA

Mary Durkan
With the declarations of first preference votes yet to come in the 2019 Council Election in the Derry City and Strabane District it looks very likely that SDLP candidate Mary Durkan is set to top the poll in the Foyleside DEA. It is understood that the barrister has polled extremely well in terms of first preference votes and while she may fall just shy of the quota for election on the first count, she is certain to take a seat on Council later today when transferred votes come into play. Miss Durkan is the sister of Foyle SDLP MLA Mark H Durkan and the niece of the former MP for Foyle Mark Durkan. It is the first time she has contested an election.
