An R driver detected driving at 87mph despite being legally restricted to 45mph has been disqualified at Derry Magistrates' Court after a judge said he was a 'a risk to everyone'.
Stephen Kelly (33) of Glenalina Road in Belfast admitted the charge that occurred at Drumahoe on October 18 last year.
The court heard that the defendant was detected driving at the speed despite being an R driver having only passed his test some 5 months previously.
A defence solicitor said that his client accepted that the speed was 'deplorable'.
District Judge Oonagh Mullan said it was incredible that Kelly could think this was a suitable speed and said he was 'a danger on the road'.
She told Kelly that his driving was 'appalling' and disqualified him from driving for 6 months and fined him £150.
