Derry teenager given probation and community service for theft from Tesco

A man has appeared at Derry Magistrate's Court charged with stealing from Tesco.

Adam Baker (19) of Drumlaheen Crescent in Derry was charged with the offence that occurred on January 8 2024 when he was said to have stolen a bottle valued at £8.75 from the off licence section of Tesco in Quayside Shopping Centre.

He had previously been barred from entering the centre in 2023 and was aware of this when he went in.

Defence Barrister Stephen Chapman said that Baker was 'only seventeen when the offence took place' and it was suggested that a probation order should be given.

Baker was given twelve months probation along with fifty hours of community service and ordered to pay a compensation order of £8.75 for the stolen bottle.
