Bail refused for man charged with Derry church burglary

A man charged with several burglaries in Derry including one at St Augustine's Church has been refused bail at the local Magistrates' Court today. 
Maurice O'Shea (35) whose address was given as Westland Street in Derry is charged with burglary at several business premises in the city earlier this year.
A police officer told the court that one of those burglaries was at St Augustine's Church and O'Shea was arrested nearby and found with stolen money on him.
The officer said that the defendant was forensically linked to this burglary.
The court heard that the defendant was released on High Court bail on October 2 but an arrest warrant was issued after his address was withdrawn. 
He was arrested again on December 6 and remanded in custody. 
The police officer opposed bail stating that the address was unsuitable and he believed that O'Shea would not adhere to conditions as he had removed an electronic tag previously.
District Judge Oonagh Mullan said that she did not believe that O'Shea would adhere to conditions and refused bail and the defendant will appear on December 23 for a Preliminary Enquiry.
