Suspended sentence for Donegal man at Derry Magistrate's Court

A man has appeared at Derry Magistrate's Court charged with breaching his bail and possession of a class B drug.

Frankie Lynn (21) of Rockmills in Derry was arrested following a bail check on December 8 when police arrived at his address and found him to be under the influence of alcohol and in possession of the drugs, both in breach of previous bail conditions.

Lynn was on bail for a number of offences from June this year, including disorderly behavior, escaping from custody and criminal damage.

Police objected to bail as he has had three previous breaches since July.

They also pointed out that his previous offending is directly linked to drug and alcohol use and he has 53 previous convictions.

Defence Barrister Stephen Chapman said that Lynn suffers from addiction issues but said that it was 'remarkable' that he has managed to abstain from his vices since being granted bail over a month ago.

He added that Lynn hasn't committed any new offences against the public.

Bail was refused and he will appear again on December 19.
